7 SEPTEMBER 08 - In The Hospital, Again... Well, I did it once again. I managed to get myself checked into the hospital, but this time, I am at Mercy instead of the VA!!! Thank goodness for small miracles :) I have been here since August 27, and will be here at least for the remainder of the week ahead. Infection, my age old nemesis, brought me here once again. However, I am getting better bit by bit, and the care at Mercy is like Heaven on Earth compared to the VA! Don't get me wrong, the VA has saved my life twice, and I am forever grateful for them. But it is a training hospital, and patients (veteran's) are guinea pigs. Nurses are few and far between, though their care and passion are beyond exemplary! It is just that there is never enough staff to handle the enormous masses that pass through the doors of the VA hospital, and having spent over two and one half years behind the walls of the VA, I have a truly unique perspective on this. Anyway, I don't know much about what is going on in and around Cashion lately, so the What's New column is empty. If anyone needs news spread around through here, email me by Clicking Here, and I will be happy to spread the news. I do have one item of interest to the folks of Cashion, and that is a job opening in town. The following is the ad for that job: Freight Broker to coordinate the complete transaction between shippers and carriers. You'll receive a generous commission for your skills. With our training, you'll have the tools and knowledge to work confidently with any customer. Must enjoy being on the phone and computer all day long. Some transportation experience preferred but would train the right person. Must have the ability to multi-task as well as lead generation. This is a full time position. Experience a plus, but not required. Salary mainly commission based. Work in an industry that pays as much as the Effort you put forth. Please forward your resume with salary requirements to rich@hall-worldwide.com or fax to 433-9184.
I look forward to returning to my home, my
community and to CashionOnline.com :) 24 AUGUST 08 - Cashion Education Foundation Fund Raiser About To End, Watermelon Feed, Busy...Busy...Busy! The Cashion Education Foundation is about to end their annual fund raiser in a few days, and time and tickets are running out to purchase your raffle tickets! If you remember, they are having a raffle followed by a basketball tournament in the Fall as this years fundraisers. The raffle started in July, and the deadline for buying your raffle tickets is August 29th! The tickets are $20 each, and only 1,200 tickets will be sold. All proceeds will go to the teacher grant requests, which is an extremely helpful tool available for the teachers! First prize for this raffle is your choice of either $3,000 CASH, or a brand new 73 inch Mitsubishi HDTV!!! Second prize is $1,000 CASH! The winners will be announced at the annual Watermelon Feed that same day, and winners need not be present to win. The Cashion Education Foundation is a 501C, so your ticket purchases should be tax deductible. How nice it would be to win a little extra Christmas money, or watch this years football games on a 73 inch television! The tickets are selling fast, so don't delay in getting yours! You can contact Heather Wilson, President of the Cashion Education Foundation, at 405-433-9121, or 405-590-7082, or email her at spirit234@gmail.com. Remember, tickets are on sale now, and the deadline for ticket sales is August 29th! Get yours now :) The Watermelon Feed is August 29th, and is always a fun-filled event! Don't forget to attend and pig out on some good eats, while supporting the school! Remember, it is FREE! I owe the good folks of Cashion a HUGE apology for being so lax in updating CashionOnline.com. I have been VERY busy lately making and maintaining brand new web sites for paying customers, and my clientele is ever increasing! But I must confess that there was a lazy streak in me, also, and I developed a mental block against updating. It is tedious, and I often wonder if folks even bother reading updated material...the bulletin board seems to have taken over that for me. Anyway, I am "back," as it were, and hopefully I will be more diligent in my updates :) 16 JULY 08 - Pee Wee Football Signup, All-Sports Merging, New Paper Recycle Bin For School, Installing New Playground Equipment, School Beautification Day, Homes For Sale, Cashion Methodist Church Gets New Pastor, Angel Food Ministries Coming, My Apologies! The 2008 Pee Wee Football Sign-Up will be held this coming Sunday evening, July 20th, at the high school football field at 6:00 PM. It is for youngsters going into the third through sixth grades this new year, and you are asked to please bring the $75.00 fee for Pee Wee football to the sign-up. The times and dates of practice and scrimmages will be discussed, as well as equipment check-out. For more information, please call Chris Cochran at 433-2095. There will be a meeting for all interested in any kind of sports or sports related activities (band, pep boosters, etc.), and those involved in All-Sports this Thursday (day after tomorrow) at 7:00 PM in the school auditorium. Many things will be discussed about the merger into one group, and I am sure there will be lots of questions and answers. New by-laws will be written, and all are encouraged to attend this meeting, as it stretches into "new territory" from the past. The second grade class of 2007/2008 did their part in "Leaving a legacy" by ordering a paper recycling bin for our town to utilize! Not only will the school earn money from the paper we put in it (we have to provide enough paper each month or it will be removed), but the town will have less garbage to bring to the landfill! It is located behind the school building, and it will accept most papers except for phone books and cardboard. Examples of acceptable items are newspapers, magazines, office and school papers, shopping catalogues and mail. Items NOT accepted are plastic, glass, metals or trash. Please do your part in helping the school raise money and helping the town save on trash by leaving your legacy :) The Cashion Education Foundation has received free of charge quite a bit of playground equipment left over when UCO tore down their marriage housing and donated the equipment to our school. It is currently stored in the bus barn. There are two large units, two small units, two swing sets, and two bouncy animals. It is going to be a great edition to our playground. However, they are going to need LOTS of help in installing the equipment! That is where we come in as a community. On August 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), they are asking that we supply the people and equipment to do this job. There will be lots of heavy lifting required (great job for those hefty teenagers, eh?), and the work will be all day, every day that weekend. They need trailers to move the playground equipment from the bus barn to the playground, equipment to mulch and spread mulch, equipment to dig holes for the posts, concrete (either a truckload or bags, and if bags, a way to mix the concrete), and possibly some equipment to lift some of the playground equipment. It will be a tremendous undertaking, and the Cashion Education Foundation needs all the help it can get! If you can help, please contact President Heather Wilson at 433-9121 and let her know what you can do or supply. On Saturday, August 9th at 8:00 AM until whenever they get done, the Cashion Education Foundation is having a School Beautification Day to tidy up our schools! The Cashion Education Foundation, along with the Modern Woodmen and the North Pointe Church are going to be at school working hard in the cleanup, and would LOVE to have any and all help that they can get! The list is long on what they are going to try and tackle, so indeed, the more, the merrier! Some of what they want to do that day is to pain the east and west entryways and side walls, paint the fire lanes, trim the trees, work on flowerbeds and remove the satellite dish. Some of what they will need (and we can hopefully supply) is paint, tools to trim trees and haul off the trimmings, plants, mulch, etc. and large equipment to remove the satellite dish. If you have a source that can get these items and supplies donated, that would be greatly appreciated! You can also donate money if not time to the project, and it will be utilized for these jobs. Checks can be made out to the Cashion Education Foundation, and are tax deductible. If you have more questions, or want information, please call President Heather Wilson at 433-9121. Folks, there are three houses in and around Cashion up for sale in the Housing For Sale category in the main menu! If you or someone you know is looking to move here, you might want to let them peruse that section. Housing here in Cashion is so hard to find, and I am trying to help those that want to sell do so. It also helps those looking to buy, too! The Cashion United Methodist Church has welcomed a new pastor to their congregation, and her name is Felecia Hensley! I have not had the time to update their web site located in CashionOnline, but I will soon. I am sure they will have lots of new information coming soon! So, stay tuned :) The Cashion Christian Church will soon start to offer foods through the Angel Food Ministries! You have heard of this program before, I am sure, and many probably buy things from them already. Well, you will not have to travel too far anymore, for they are opening up a branch right here through the Cashion Christian Church! They already have the August items up for sale, and I will list them here, although you can go into their site in the Bulletin Board and see for yourself. For August, they are offering for their regular items, 1.5 pounds of Ribeye steaks (4 x 5 ounces), 5 pounds of chicken leg quarters, 28 ounces of chicken breast nuggets, 28 ounces of Salisbury Steak dinner entree, 32 ounces of breaded chicken breast filets, 2 ounces of smoked sausage, 16 ounces of California blend frozen vegetables, 16 ounces of frozen carrots, 16 ounces of chopped spinach, 10 count of frozen waffles, 16 ounces of bean soup mix, one pound of rice, 9 ounces of instant potatoes (14 servings), 15 ounces of sliced peaches, 32 ounces of Borden shelf stable milk, one dozen eggs and one desert item...all for just $30. For the other items offered along side the purchase of the regular items, please visit the bulletin board under the Cashion Christian Church's place in the bulletin board. The order and pickup dates will be announced soon. If you have questions or want to know more, please contact Dave Brunson at 405-721-3308, or email him at brunsondave@yahoo.com. Folks, I have been "out of pocket" both mentally and physically the last few weeks, as evidenced by all the announcements that have accrued in here. I have been debating the merits of keeping alive this entire web site, or just booting the bulletin board. The difficulties I have been having just getting to dialysis has been totally overwhelming to this simple male brain and heart of mine, and giant financial problems just washed over me in June and July, making me wish I were alone with my family on some isolated island somewhere in the south Pacific without owing a single debt and eating off the bounty of the land. Realty checks always bring me back to the real world, where I do find happiness, but where two overwhelming months just brought me down. Please forgive me for the neglect of our town's new web site. My problems are far from over, including still begging to get rides to my life-saving dialysis. Anyway, I have decided to keep CashionOnline up and running. But, I may, from time to time, not update as frequently as I used to. I am sorry folks, but health dictates...and dialysis just kicks my butt! You have no idea! Anyway, please forgive me, and I will pick it up a notch or two! Thanks...Chris :) JUNE 08 - Vacation Bible School At Methodist Church, Cashion Education Foundation Annual Fund Raiser, Still Needing Help! The Cashion United Methodist Church announces their Vacation Bible School starting today, Sunday, June 22 to Wednesday, June 25. Times are from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM each day. Children ages Pre-K through those entering fifth grade are welcomed to attend! You may bring in the registration form on the first night of VBS. If you have any questions about this event, please call 433-2433 for more information. The Cashion Education Foundation is starting their annual fund raiser early, and instead of their usual auction, they are doing things differently this coming school year! They are going to have a raffle for their first event, followed by a basketball tournament in the Fall. The raffle is starting now, and the deadline for buying your raffle tickets is August 13th! Remember, tickets are on sale now, and the deadline for ticket sales is August 13th! Get yours now :) I am once again making a plea for rides to dialysis...or for someone with welding knowledge that might help me fix the radiator on my truck. Their is a small, one inch tiny split in an easily accessible place on the radiator. My kids have been postponed on their trip to Alabama, so they could be taking me to dialysis if we could get our radiator repaired! In the meantime, I am still desperate for rides to dialysis! All I am asking of you is for one trip to Mercy Memorial Hospital, and I will pay for your gas. I have only one person lined up this week, and am desperate for help! If you can help, please call me at 433-2048 (our phones are once again broken this weekend), or email me at OkDoke@aol.com. Without dialysis, I will end up in the hospital within two days fighting for my life! Please, if you can help, do so! Thank you :) 15 JUNE 08 - Father's Day Remembered, Vacation Bible School At Methodist Church, Cashion Schools 2008/2009 Calendar Up, Cashion Class Of 1998 Reunion Scheduled, Still Needing Help! Today is Father's Day! I am fortunate to still have a father whom I can call and send a card to, even though he will turn 86 this year! He is as sharp as a tack, as is my mom, and I am thankful for still having them around. I always thought that as they grew older, that this might be the last Father's Day or Mother's Day I would have with them. Anymore, I still wonder the same, except that it is ME I wonder about living one more year, not them. That generation seems to go on forever... The Cashion United Methodist Church announces their Vacation Bible School from Sunday, June 22 to Wednesday, June 25. Times are from 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM each day. Children ages Pre-K through those entering fifth grade are welcomed to attend! You may bring in the registration form on the first night of VBS. If you have any questions about this event, please call 433-2433 for more information. The folks in the superintendents office were kind enough to send me the upcoming school year basic dates for such things as school starting and ending times, holiday times, professional days, fall and spring break, graduations, etc. I have uploaded all the information into the school calendar for your use. As the start of school nears, I am sure I will get many more dates for things such as football games, PTO meetings, special dinners and the like. So, stay tuned for more information. Cashion Class of 1998 will be having their ten year reunion on Saturday, June 21st at 7:30 PM at the Cimarron National Golf and Country Club in Guthrie! Dinner will be served, and there will be a cash bar and music on the patio. The cost will be $25 per person. Please contact Riece Baker if you or someone you know was in the Class of 98 and have nor received an invitation in the mail. Her phone number is 405-292-8949, or you may email her at riecebaker@yahoo.com. She has found everyone's address except for six classmates. Your help would be appreciated. I appreciate those who took me to dialysis this last week! I can never get across to those who take me how precious those rides are, even though I try. Missing even one day puts so much pressure on the heart and lungs as fluid builds, and it sometimes leads to a midnight trip to the ER! I am fortunate as my kidneys still work somewhat, giving me an extra edge against fluid buildup. However, without those three day a week sessions, well, it isn't good at all. So, I gratefully thank those who took me last week, and with all my heart acknowledge their sacrifices for me :) I still make an appeal to others in the community to take me this week, as I still need rides, and will need help for the rest of the summer! Our truck recently broke (radiator), and my boys will be heading to Alabama next Monday. I am simply asking for just one day, one trip to Mercy Hospital...that is all I need. If anyone can spare the time, please consider helping out a fellow community member. Soon, I will be able to take myself (hopefully), but until them, I am at your mercy! To help, call 433-2048 and ask for Chris, or email me at OkDoke@aol.com. Our phones are out this weekend, so email is the only recourse we have at the moment. Thanks for listening, and thanks even more if you help! My kids thank you, too :) 9 JUNE 08 - Vacation Bible School At Methodist Church, Cashion Class Of 1998 Reunion Scheduled, Dialysis Ride Plea! Folks, I am at a crossroads here! I had made a post last week in the bulletin board asking for help with rides to dialysis this summer. My boys are taking me now, but soon they will be in Alabama for vacation until school starts. However, yesterday, the radiator in our truck busted, and it will be a few days (maybe more) before I can get it fixed. In the meantime, I am at a total loss for rides to dialysis! I do have a friend that will take me Monday, but I have no one to pick my up Monday evening, nor do I have anyone to take me or pick me up the rest of the week! My wife might be able to pick me up Wednesday and Friday evenings, but as of now, that is not certain. She can't pick me up Monday night as she works late every Monday. If ANYONE is willing to help, I would be greatly appreciative, and offer to pay for the gas involved. I need to get picked up about 12:30 PM (just after lunch) and taken to Mercy Memorial Hospital Plaza Building, and picked up around 7:00 PM. If this were not life threatening, I would not be so bold as to ask in this forum...but I have no choice in the matter! If you think you can help for even one ride, please call me at 433-2048, or 323-8920 (after noon), or you can email me at OkDoke@aol.com. I am in the immediate need for someone to pick me up Monday night...so any help would be greatly appreciated! I tell you, I sure enjoy these cool breezes brought on by the recent storms! Since we have no air conditioning, I like it when the weather turns rough. But it sure makes for tough barbequing with these winds! 2 JUNE 08 - Cashion Class Of 1998 Reunion Scheduled, Cashion High School/Junior High Girls Summer Ball, Vernie Snow Aquatic Center Schedule, Wheat Harvest Around The Corner!!! The Cashion Class of 1998 will be having their ten year reunion on Saturday, June 21st at 7:30 PM at the Cimarron National Golf and Country Club in Guthrie! For those folks who follow the ladies during summer softball, the Cashion School Calendar has all the ball game schedules listed for both Varsity and Junior Varsity. For some fast softball action, you ought to check out these players! I could never hope to hit those girls...they are THAT good! I have provided a link to the Vernie Snow Aquatic Center so that you can find out the times they are open to the public, and when they offer private lessons and exercise classes. To access that information, Please Click Here. Well, wheat harvest is just around the corner! There are two combines parked in my yard getting greased and oiled, the old wheat trucks are taken out for their once a year foray into the real world, and the wheat itself is turning a gorgeous blonde! Having moved here from Louisiana, we never saw fields of wheat until we got to Oklahoma! I have to tell you, it is one of my special treats to see the tall green wheat grass blowing in the winds, like ocean ripples on a vast ocean. But when the wheat turns golden, it is almost like looking at a sea of golden waves...as if I were in Heaven watching pure gold waving so beautifully at me, begging the eyes to take in the beauty and grandeur of it all! I reckon I must sound silly to most Okies! But having come from a part of the country where cotton and soybeans and sugar cane and rice rule, and none of it very pretty, the tall wheat fields around here are true eye candy to me! I've always enjoyed Nature, but I never really took the time to appreciate it as much as I do now...now that I have the time to sit and ponder things, like waving fields of golden wheat :) 24 MAY 08 - Memorial Day Services In Cashion Cemetery, Cashion Boys And Girls Basketball Camps, Cashion Class Of 1998 Reunion Scheduled, Video Of The Week, Houses For Rent And Sale, Aaaeeeeeeeee!!! The Cashion Cemetery Committee would like to welcome everyone to our Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26, 2008, beginning at 11:00 AM. There will be a welcome by Cheryl Buckner, followed by the Posting of the Colors by Cashion Boy Scout Troop #328. Then the Pledge of Allegiance will be said, led by the boy scouts. The National Anthem will be played, with a scripture reading by Jerry Sullaway of the Cashion Christian Church. "Amazing Grace" will then be played on the trumpet by Dustin Buckner, and afterwards, the poem "It has always been the soldier..." will be read. The ending of the ceremony will be concluded by Taps, once again played by Dustin Buckner, with a closing prayer by Jerry Sullaway. A visitation of the Veteran's graves will follow. A donation jar will be available at the pavilion for the upkeep and future improvements of the Cashion Cemetery, should anyone want to contribute. Folks, no matter where your political tendencies lean, no matter what you think of the politics of our country, no matter whether or not you love or disdain the military, no matter who you are, what you do, or what your status in this life is...we ALL need to remember that if it were not for the veteran's of this country, of ALL generations, we would not be celebrating Memorial Day with the freedoms that we have! Indeed, we may be speaking German, or Japanese, or Arabic! Our brave veteran's, going all the way back to Roy Cashion for whom our proud town is named, and who was the first Oklahoman to die in battle on foreign soil serving with Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders in Cuba, deserve our respect, our time over this holiday, and our highest esteem! Let us not forget the veterans, of past and present...and let us take a little time to attend this simple but powerful ceremony this Monday. Then go back to your family barbecue's with your loved ones...knowing that as you do, veteran's are protecting your very way of life today! God bless ALL of our veteran's, here or gone, and may we take at least a little time this Monday to honor them :) This coming Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, May 30th, there will be a boys and girls basketball camp held in the Cashion High School gymnasium. The cost will be $50, and camp t-shirts, coaches evaluations, and awards will be handed out. For more information, Please Click Here to open a flyer for the event. The Cashion Class of 1998 will be having their ten year reunion on Saturday, June 21st at 7:30 PM at the Cimarron National Golf and Country Club in Guthrie! Dinner will be served, and there will be a cash bar and music on the patio. The cost will be $25 per person. Her phone number is 405-292-8949, or you may email her at riecebaker@yahoo.com. She has found everyone's address except for six classmates. Your help would be appreciated. I have recently made a new addition to the web site...a Video of the Week! It is directly below the Picture of the Week on the menu, but many folks have passed it over not realizing that this is a new feature. This is the third week up and running, and the kinks are all worked out now. So, if you want a little humor or pick me up, visit the video of the week! There have been two or three new homes come up for sale and rent lately. For those who may be looking to move here, please visit Housing For Sale, and the Housing For Rent items in the menu to access the information. Stephanie at City Hall tells me she has many folks calling her asking for information about housing availability out here, and she now directs them to this web site. Anyone who wants to rent or sell their own properties need only tell me, and I will list them...all free of charge, of course :) Aaaeeeeeeeeeee!!! School is out! I had another birthday last week (didn't really know if I would make it another year or not)! Summer is almost here! Grills will be getting hot! Watermelons will be cooling in the fridges! Wheat will be turning golden colors! Fresh cut grass will be underfoot! And vacations (hopefully) will be taking us closer to loved ones or grand places! I love it! There is only one thing to say...Aaaeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! 18 MAY 08 - Cashion Boys And Girls Basketball Camps, Athletics Physicals, Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament, New "According To Jim" Coming Soon, Summer Time! On Tuesday, May 27th through Friday, May 30th, there will be a boys and girls basketball camp held in the Cashion High School gymnasium. The cost will be $50, and camp t-shirts, coaches evaluations, and awards will be handed out. For more information, Please Click Here to open a flyer for the event. Athletic physicals will be held this coming Thursday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM...the same day school is out. For more information on this, please refer to the posting below this one. The Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament is scheduled to off this Saturday coming. Folks, this has always turned out to be a fun event for all, especially since it is "the older folks" playing! There is a two-game guarantee, with two other individual contests to be played. For detailed information, please read the post dated 27 April 08. Hope to see you out there! And remember, concession will be opened! According to Jim (Stover, that is), a new "According To Jim" personality will soon be gracing the pages of CashionOnline.com! I have received more email about his stories more than anything else in the web site! Folks just love hearing Jim's take on the older citizens in our community, especially the stalwarts! Former Cashionites now living in other states especially love hearing the thoughts of friends they knew many years ago, and Jim has received many names as suggestions to interview. Now that school is almost out, Jim promises to put more stories on the site...and we will ALL be glad to read them! Thanks, Jim! You are the best :) I don't know how things are at your house, but in our home, things are already starting to feel like summer is already here! I, for one, like it! I have BBQ on the mind, swimming, matinee movies, Nintendo Wii, late nights with lazy mornings, and the sure thing of summer goodies, like watermelon, summer squash, vine-ripe tomatoes, fresh green beans and the like to look forward to! Aahhhh yes, it kind of reminds me of my summers back home in Louisiana, where we left our homes early in the mornings with nothing on but a pair of shorts, ate at whoever's house we ended up at during meal times, and always found our way back home somewhere at or just after dark. No school and no worries...the life of Riley for a kid! On rainy days, I remember loooooong games of Monopoly, thoughts of rebuilding the chalk towns that were washed away by the rains, and worms! Oh yeah, worms coming out of the ground to escape the moisture...ready to go onto my hook! Catfish were on the mind then! Big, old catfish...with always the hope of catching the old 40 pound grandaddy catfish out of bayou Roberts, which was nearby...you know, the one no one had ever caught, but we all KNEW existed! Ah yes...summer vacation is almost here! And I do believe I am more excited that school is out than my own kids! Well, I doubt it ;) 11 MAY 08 - Relay For Life Garage Sale, Cashion Athletics Physicals, Two Graduation Ceremonies This Week, Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament, Town Hall Meeting, School Nearly Out! This Saturday from 9:00 AM until noon, there will be a garage sale to benefit the American Cancer Society. There will be many fine things up for sale. The event will be held on the grassy area in front of the Community State Bank. All are welcomed to come and browse. To access the flyer for this event, Please Click Here. Athletic physicals for students entering the 5th through 12th grade during the 2008 - 2009 school year will be held on May 22nd, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The cost of the physical is $10 per student. Sign-up will begin at 6:00 PM at the southeast entrance to the high school. This pass will allow any athlete to enter any HOME Cashion athletic event, excluding OSSAA playoffs, without paying admission. Please make all checks payable to Cashion Public Schools. For more information, please contact Coach Tichenor at 433-2575. This Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the school auditorium, the 8th grade students will be having their graduation ceremonies. Following that on Friday, May 16th, the Senior High Class of Cashion will be having their graduation ceremonies in the high school gymnasium! Ceremonies start at 7:00 PM, and a sizable crowd is expected. I have seen three of my kids through graduation here, and everyone of them was an event I will never forget! They are always done with much class and pomp. Indeed, these events are a crowning glory to all those who have made the sacrifice of finishing school. Please don't miss it... The Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament is scheduled to start around 8:00 AM on Saturday, May 24! There are a few changes this year, including a two-game guarantee. There will be a concession stand set up for those participating and for the spectators. Eighteen teams are expected to participate in this year's slow pitch, semi-coed games (only one person from the opposite sex required per team). It was April 21, 2006 when Lance was taken, and this tournament is held in as a community remembrance of him. To obtain more information about the event, call Jared Beutler at 205-5218 on his cell, or email him at jbeutler@ucok.edu. You can also see the flyer for this tournament by Clicking Here. The last two years events went over well, and this promises to be even better! There is a town hall meeting with Congressman Frank Lucas this coming Friday at the Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher. It starts at 1:00 PM and ends at 2:00 PM. If anyone is interested in tugging the Congressman's ear, this might be your opportunity to get "up close and personal" with Mr. Lucas. With all that is happening with the school, this might be a great opportunity to get our plight directly into the eyes and ears of our Congressman! Take advantage of it if you can! My gosh, school is almost OUT! It ends a week from this coming Thursday...and you can be sure of having starving, bored kids invading your weekdays before you know it! Around our house, we have grass to cut, house repairs to be made, a garage with junk in it to be repaired, and mini-vacations/events to participate in that cost little, but offer getaways for the kids and mom. Poor old Pops is stuck at home, as usual...but he manages ;) So, get ready Moms...steel those nerves, stuff the freezer with cheap popsicles, and prepare to have your television hijacked! Better yet, you can always send your little darlings over to the neighbor's house, especially before lunch time, so that they will have someone to play with. I think that is within proper parenting rituals...and definitely worth it if you MUST know what happens to Blake and Jenna on The Young General Days of our Restless Hospital! Don't you agree? 4 MAY 08 - Spring Band Concert, New Feature Added To CashionOnline.com, Football Labor Auction Information, Cashion All Sports Banquet, Interesting Stats, Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament, May 3rd, 1999 Tornado Outbreak Remembered! It is time once again to enjoy the music of the Cashion Bands Spring Concert! This Tuesday, May 6, at 7:00 PM, the bands will strike up their tunes in the school auditorium to the delight of many in the audience! I, for one, greatly look forward to the Christmas and Spring concerts, and to hear my kids tell it, this year's Spring concert will be bigger and better than ever! They are excited about it, which tells me it ought to be an excellent show! The third/fourth grade band will be playing a couple of songs, with the fifth/sixth grade band following them with a couple of songs. Then the junior high band will perform six songs, and the BIG band will perform at least eight songs that evening! Mr. Stallcup used to keep the show down to an hour, but Tuesday's event will throw that timetable out the window with much more music! I, for one, am VERY glad...I've always loved hearing the bands strike up their rousing songs, and wanted more and more! So, folks, if you like live music with big band sounds, then this is THE place to be! It is, of course, FREE :) I am FINALLY getting some time (and health) together, allowing me to start doing a bit more with the web site...and my latest creation is the "Video Of The Week!" Most of you know of the "Picture Of The Week" in the main menu, and just beneath it, I have added this new feature. It is easy to access. All you need to do is to click on the titled link provided, and it should start playing immediately. If anyone has any problems with this, please let me know. But testing has gone well so far, and I look forward to providing a new "Video of the Week" each and every week for your viewing pleasure :) There is new information on the upcoming Football Labor Auction. Coach Shackelford has graciously provided me with a flyer for the event with lots of information, including items to be auctioned off along with dates, times, and dinner information. To access that flyer, simply Click Here. Remember, the event happens Friday, May 9th, with dinner starting at 6:30 PM. The auction starts at 7:30 PM, all at the school. This is a night to remember, and has previously provided folks with LOTS of fun times and a great atmosphere as they celebrate the crowning achievements of the Cashion Football organization! So, remember to leave the hamburger in the freezer, and come on down to dinner and fun! Following the auction the very next day is the Cashion All Sports Banquet! Doors will open to the high school gymnasium, and the banquet will commence at 5:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15, or $12 for those 65 years of age and older. New officers will be elected this year before dinner, so be sure to get there early to participate or witness the event. Look folks...you are getting out of cooking two days in a row here, if only you take advantage of these great school activities ;) For those of us who have been regularly visiting the bulletin board lately, I have some amazing stats that I think you would be interested in! Since our school system is in a particular fix of late, our community has been very vocal trying to figure out what to do with it. Our students have made strides down at the state capital, while parents have taken to writing government officials, visiting numerous trainings, and getting the word out via television, newspaper, and through the bulletin board in here as well! Well, it seems that WE are not the only ones visiting the bulletin board! No no...folks nationwide are now visiting here, and at an amazing number! While CashionOnline.com usually has around 75,000 to 85,000 hits per month, April stats ALONE saw this web site get hit over 1,000,000 times...a ten-fold increase in the number of folks wanting to know how our community is going to fair with it's current dilemma! Apparently, there are many others out there who suffer the same fate as Cashion schools...and many eyes are upon us! So, for those of you who think we are fighting this fight alone, well, I think the stats prove otherwise! Keep up the fight, folks...and perhaps Cashion will one day set the benchmark for schools who suffer with underfunded mandates from governments and parents who have special needs children and their desire to get the best services available for their children! This is another reminder of the upcoming Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament coming up on the 29th of May. For more detailed information, read the posting below this. It provides all the information you will need! Folks, my boys and I went to the movies in Kingfisher last night to see Iron Man. It was a fun night, complete with popcorn, drinks, and a stop for ice cream after the movie! On the way home this peaceful and fun night, we realized that today was May 4...nine years and one day after that horrific tornado outbreak in Oklahoma that killed so many, and destroyed the livelihood of so many others! Cashion was to take part in the history of that day, seeing TWO tornadoes hit near town! Unfortunately for me and my family, BOTH tornadoes directly hit our land...and our house and our wits were not spared! It was a nightmarish event, one that permanently scarred us in ways that we could not predict. While we managed to eventually take life back from Mother Nature's rude awakening, we coped in different ways. For me, I felt the need to write the story of that fateful day down...and you can read it in this web site. I am no professional writer, but this story is what came out of the terror of that night, and was my way of coping. The story can be found at the bottom of the Menu on each page of this web site, and it is entitled "The Day Of Our Tornadoes!" If you are new to this part of the country, or if you are just interested in this sort of thing, then I invite you all to read my story. It is the truth of that fateful day, and the day following. For me and my boys, there are still scars left...and we talked about that day for the rest of the ride home from the movies. It is something that you just don't forget... 27 APRIL 08 - Lance Beutler Memorial Softball Tournament, Wildcat Football Web Site Updated, Cashion All Sports Banquet, Football Labor Auction, Many Thanks! If you need more information about the event, you can call Jared Beutler at 205-5218 on his cell, or email him at jbeutler@ucok.edu. You can also see the flyer for this tournament by Clicking Here. There is MUCH information about last year's season, complete with pictures, names of participants, and actual broadcasts of four games! The football auction will be held this year on Friday, May 9, 2008. I am in the process of getting MUCH more information on this event, including items to be auctioned, specific times and places, food provided, etc. So, stay tuned to learn more about it. I would personally like to thank the community at large for coming to my rescue! I was in dire need of rides to kidney dialysis, due to two of my previous rides moving or taking ill. The individuals that stepped up to take me personally know of my great gratitude towards them! But I wanted the rest of the community to know that folks I have never met in and around Cashion felt the need in their hearts to help out this old vet with his troubles, and have taken NO money from me for gas, despite my desire to pay. Folks, don't let anyone tell you that this community doesn't have heart, and the desire to follow through with their actions! I have personally been privy to MANY wonderful things from folks I have never met, whether it was in person or done anonymously! I also know of others who have benefitted in kind by the great folks of Cashion! This IS a great community, and I, for one, thank my Heavenly Father each night for the blessings of the people living here, and for my many other blessings. We are ALL blessed to live here amongst GREAT people...and I humbly and graciously acknowledge them in this web site! May God continue to bless us all with the privilege of living on our piece of the prairie...Cashion, Oklahoma! May we ALL feel the joy of loving our neighbors :) |
